Head of the Library: Anamarija Starcevic-Stambuk The Institute's Library specialises in the fields of ethnology and folkloristics, as well as in Slavic studies, and cultural and social anthropology. The Library houses important and rare domestic and foreign editions, and the fund is of unique value in Croatian terms. The fund numbers 28 100 volumes, which 19 000 are books and offprints, and 9 100 are bound volumes of periodicals (328 titles of current periodicals). The Library uses the traditional catalogue method (an alphabetical, professional and local catalogue), thematic catalogues and a specialised card-index (e.g. the Card-Index of Printed Collections of Folk Poetry, Tales, Sayings and Songs). Computer processing has been introduced, and since 1997, when the input began of the catalogued units of the entire Library fund, more than 10 000 units have been entered into a few dozen specialised data bases. The Library has been on-line with the CARNet network since 1993. Information-providing and referral activities are also included in the publication of monthly bulletins on new titles, the compilation of lists of the Institute's publications and those of its associates, and the drawing up of the thematic bibliographies which are part of the scientific research projects. As well as its library, documentation and information activities, the Institute's Library is also involved in publication activities - classifying articles for Narodna umjetnost, and in information technology activities - working on the development of the data base. Since 1986, the Library has been headed by Anamarija Starcevic-Stambuk. |
