Third Meeting of the Study Group "Music and Minorities"
of the International Council for Traditional Music
Roč, August 27th - September 3rd, 2004

Third Meeting of the Study Group "Music and Minorities" will be held in Roc from August 27th to September 3rd, 2004. Local organizer of the meeting is the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research from Zagreb in collaboration with Cultural and Art Society "Istarski zeljeznicar" from Roč. In the programme committee are Ursula Hemetek (Vienna), Svanibor Pettan (Ljubljana), Anca Giurchescu (Kobenhaven), Naila Ceribasic (Zagreb) and Erica Haskell (Seattle).

The aims of the International Council for Traditional Music (www.ethnomusic.ucla.edu/ICTM) are to further the study, practice, documentation, preservation and dissemination of traditional music, including folk, popular, classical and urban music, and dance of all countries. It is an non-governmental organization in formal consultative relations with UNESCO.

Themes of the Third Meeting of the Study Group "Music and Minorities" are: 1. Emics and Etics in Relation to Music of Minorities, 2. Multiple Identities and Identity Management in Music of Minorities, 3. Marginality - Empowerment - Applied Ethnomusicology. Participants are from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States.
